Jade frequently refers to two minerals; Nephrite, less lustrous more common and Jadeite, shown here, the more precious and rare. Jadeite is primarily found in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. This mineral is often called Burmese jade.
The more valuable Jadeite possesses a rich apple green translucency, and can also be found in tawny brown, lavender, and milky white tones.
In ancient China, Jadeite was prized for both its durability and calming green color. A powerful symbol of authority and status, owning Jadeite was restricted to nobility and members of The Imperial Family. Its profound cultural and symbolic significance elevated the mineral’s value and was proudly worn by high ranking nobles to illustrate their elevated status.
Jadeite was believed to impart wisdom and benevolence to the wearer. It is often presented to wish prosperity, good luck, and longevity to the recipient.
